Sculpting Another Destiny

All Design Transparent

A reimagining of a banal corner buildings architectural elevations towards
dynamic eye line composition and figures representing the generations and nurturing of life for this primarily maternity clinic medical building. The large central figure with a flaming heart serves to utilize scale, enhance and visually eliminate the facades corner while offering a symbolic healing bridge between the past and present and two expansive facades. Echo Parks famous lotuses and bridge a block away are visually brought to the street corner.

Process

I approached this work by photo documenting the neighborhood I so happened to be living in surrounding the location. Focusing my attention primarily on the Echo Park Lake. Simultaneously doing a few on-site architectural contemplation to imagine what parts of the facade and substrate seemed most effective for compositional emphasis.

I also engaged in a long time habit of slowing down to a meditative state both on and off site toward reconciling an equation between my subjective/personal and objective/pluralistic perceptions or imagining what wants to live on this site. I used a few local resident subjects as models for the hero figures, another tradition in my mural works.
